Samuel Hahnemann

Samuel Hahnemann (1755–1843) was a German physician best known as the founder of homeopathy. Dissatisfied with the harsh medical practices of his time, such as bloodletting and purging, he sought gentler, more effective treatments. In 1796, he introduced the concept of "like cures like" — the idea that a substance causing symptoms in a healthy person could, in minute doses, treat similar symptoms in a sick person. Hahnemann further developed the practice of potentization, a process of serial dilution and shaking, which he believed enhanced a remedy’s healing power while minimizing toxicity. His work culminated in the publication of The Organon of the Healing Art, a foundational text in homeopathic medicine. Though controversial, Hahnemann's ideas sparked a global movement that influenced 19th-century medical reform. Despite criticism from mainstream medicine, homeopathy remains practiced worldwide, and Hahnemann is remembered as a pioneering figure in alternative and holistic healthcare.
